Life Down Under- Sydney/Blue Mountains edition

My second trip to Sydney was very different to my first! A friend I had made on my adventures in Cairns, called Dean, has recently got a job as a tour guide in Sydney and he basically sorted my entire weekend for me! I was lucky enough to be in Sydney during ‘Vivid’. Vivid is a huge light show that goes on every night for a few weeks each year around the city. There are hundreds of neon attractions and light shows projected onto lots of buildings, including the Opera House. Some are interactive- one of my favourites was where the light projection mimicked your movements onto a building. It was a total sensory overload but it was amazing! Then it was an early night for us as we were up and off by 7am the next day for our blue mountains tour. There were 3 stops on our tour, the first of which was Kangaroo spotting with which we were unlucky, unfortunately. However, the tour was quickly redeemed by our hike through the Blue Mountains. We were greeted by a breathtaking view as ...

Life Down Under- Cairns Edition

This week took me to the tropics. I flew all the way up to Cairns for a week while my host family took a holiday to Bali . I still can't quite get my head around Cairns , it was such an odd little place. It's far too small to be a city, there were no tall buildings, and the centre basically consisted of a strip of clubs, hostels, supermarkets, pubs and tattoo parlours- effectively just services that are aimed at backpackers. It was quite surreal to be surrounded by the Rainforest, too. No matter where you went you drove through luscious green scenery, with clouds lurking amongst the tallest trees. It was so beautiful, but unfortunately, the fact I was in the RAINforest definitely reflected in the weather. Turns out March is one of the only months of the year that's considered part of the 'rainy season'. On average, in March alone Cairn's rainfall is around half of the UK 's rainfall in an entire year. This definitely put a dampener on my trip. Ironica...

Life Down Under- Sydney edition

Why hello there friends! So this morning I had my first experience with an uninvited visitor. There was a juicy Huntsman Spider in my bedroom ready for me when I woke up. It wasn't massive but it was still bigger than anything we've got back in the UK so I was definitely not prepared to deal with it, so I summoned my host Mum, Jackie, to help me out! I pray he'll be the only one to make an appearance but I'll keep you updated! Other than that I've had a super exciting weekend! I had a long weekend off work so I decided to make a trip up to Sydney to see one of my best friends from home, Polly, who moved there around November last year. I had so much fun but it was such a shame that the weather happened to be terrible for the majority of the time I was there. It managed to hold back on Thursday night when Polly, her flatmates and I decided to go to the Ivy, a club which has free entry before 10pm on a Thursday. We spent most of the night at the amazing roo...

Life Down Under- The First Month

PHEW. This job is both so much fun and extremely exhausting. Don't get me wrong, I'd do anything to have a job where I make sandwiches and play hide and seek all day over being sat in an office but it's tough entertaining a 13 year old and  6 year old all day, every day. Don't even get me started on the arguments I've had to break up and OH how there have been so many crocodile tears. But it's definitely rewarding. I've been welcomed into this family like I'm one of their own and I can definitely say it's my home away from home. I'm stationed pretty far out of Melbourne city but I'm a 10 minute walk from what must be one of the most underrated beaches in Melbourne- Bon Beach . Technically, the suburb is Chelsea , which is full of little restaurants and bars. I get plenty of free time to enjoy the area and I often get long weekends off when I can venture into the city via the train- TOP TIP: you will get fined for having your feet on the...

Australia: The Build Up

Oh. My. Gosh. It's 2019?! Where did last year go?! It seems only yesterday I was frolicking with elephants and falling off mopeds, not 10 months! Much has happened this year, as you'll know if you've been keeping up with my blog posts, but if you've read the last one you'll know that this year has something veeery special in store for me: AUSTRALIA , HERE I COME! If you didn't already know I've landed a job in Melbourne as an Au Pair. The whole process is finished- I've got my working visa, I've been getting to know the wonderful family I'll be working for, and flights are booked! I'm jetting off in 9 days. 9 DAYS! I feel like every sentence so far has ended with an exclamation mark but I'm JUST SO EXCITED! On a more serious note I'm also very nervous. I've never worked abroad before instead of travelling for leisure and I think that leaves a lot more room for homesickness. I'm going to miss my family and friends so...

THE MOST EXCTING NEWS

Hello all! I’m so so sorry for leaving you guys hanging for so long but the brutal truth is that I haven’t had anything to blog about! But here I am with THE most exciting news... I have got a job in AUSTRALIA! As you’ll know from my last blog post, I decided at the end of summer that I was gonna give uni a miss and see where life takes me, and I guess life decided I belonged in the land down under. I’ll be working as an Au Pair with a lovely family in Melbourne for around 6 months before heading off to explore for a while and I am SO EXCITED! I love love love working with kids and to be able to do that whilst living in a different country is going to be an absolute dream. Obviously, I’ll miss my family and friends but this is the perfect opportunity for me to get off my bum since I’m now not going to uni. I’ll keep you all updated before I leave in terms of the preparation that needs to take place and whilst I’m out there, but until then I wish you all well!! Lizzy xx

Another September...

Good evening Internet users, I really should apologise for the silence! My blog has been extremely inactive for a good, long time, purely because I've not been doing much worthy of writing about. However, I've recently come to a decision, that was no surprise to those who know me well, that I'd like to share with you all. If you follow my Instagram, @theworldwithlizzy, you'll have seen on my most recent post that, for the second year running, I'm not going to University. Around August time I had a huge revelation that Architecture, my intended course, wasn't my true calling and I wasn't prepared to spend all that time (7 year course, guys... no thankyou), effort and money studying something I wasn't 100% positive I wanted to study. I still admire architecture and I'll always have an eye for beautiful buildings and structures, I'm just not going down that career path. My brother studied Architecture at University and ever since I became ...
