Australia: The Build Up

Oh. My. Gosh. It's 2019?! Where did last year go?! It seems only yesterday I was frolicking with elephants and falling off mopeds, not 10 months! Much has happened this year, as you'll know if you've been keeping up with my blog posts, but if you've read the last one you'll know that this year has something veeery special in store for me:

AUSTRALIA, HERE I COME! If you didn't already know I've landed a job in Melbourne as an Au Pair. The whole process is finished- I've got my working visa, I've been getting to know the wonderful family I'll be working for, and flights are booked! I'm jetting off in 9 days. 9 DAYS! I feel like every sentence so far has ended with an exclamation mark but I'm JUST SO EXCITED!

On a more serious note I'm also very nervous. I've never worked abroad before instead of travelling for leisure and I think that leaves a lot more room for homesickness. I'm going to miss my family and friends so much, and I suppose it helps that the family I'm staying with has a dog exactly like mine, but that doesn't mean I'll miss her any less. It makes me sad that I won't be able to hop on a train home when I'm missing them, and the time difference will make it difficult to call. However, I'm hoping the kids will keep me occupied and I'll feel right at home anyway. What's 8 months compared to the rest of my life anyway?! I'll be back in sunny England before I know it.

I'm positive I'm going to forget to pack something I really need since I've never packed for more than 3 months or for different seasons before, so I'm going to have to write some extensive lists to make sure I've got everything. Obviously I can buy things while I'm out there but I've been rinsed dry paying for my flights, and visa so I'm going to be spending as little as possible while I'm out there so I can travel afterwards. I've got a few ideas as to what to do once I've finished the Au Pair programme but I'm still very open to suggestions if anyone has any? Send me a message on Instagram (@theworldwithlizzy) or on Facebook (literally type @theworldwithlizzy into the Facebook search box).

I haven't really got any new years resolutions set in stone yet, but I think since I'm beginning this year with a very clean slate a good resolution might be to have a fresh approach to life. Be more positive and more active. Try to be more motivated and just have a healthier mental attitude. Hopefully, with that in mind, this year may be the best one yet.

Thinking about doing a packing blog before I leave, what d'ya reckon?

Love Lizzy x
