Life Down Under- Sydney/Blue Mountains edition
My second trip to Sydney was very different to my first! A friend I had made on my adventures in Cairns, called Dean, has recently got a job as a tour guide in Sydney and he basically sorted my entire weekend for me!
I was lucky enough to be in Sydney during ‘Vivid’. Vivid is a huge light show that goes on every night for a few weeks each year around the city.
There are hundreds of neon attractions and light shows projected onto lots of buildings, including the Opera House. Some are interactive- one of my favourites was where the light projection mimicked your movements onto a building. It was a total sensory overload but it was amazing! Then it was an early night for us as we were up and off by 7am the next day for our blue mountains tour.
There were 3 stops on our tour, the first of which was Kangaroo spotting with which we were unlucky, unfortunately. However, the tour was quickly redeemed by our hike through the Blue Mountains. We were greeted by a breathtaking view as we hopped off the minibus before starting our trek. We descended about 600 SUPER steep steps to the bottom of a waterfall whilst learning about the wildlife. Then, once we'd eaten lunch, we had to make it back up the 600 steps... now this was a challenge. Many, MANY breaks were taken, trust me. After that, we drove to the Three Sisters, a famous rock formation in the Blue Mountains.
I couldn’t get enough of the spectacular landscapes we kept coming across! I was constantly in awe. Finally, our tour guide took us to one last little viewpoint which was clearly a bit more secretive as we were the only ones there. He pulled out an ice box of beer and cider and we all had a good, old chat. It was a really lovely end to the tour.
That night Dean and I headed back to ‘Vivid’ to get some proper shots with my camera which turned out an absolute dream, as you can see above.
After a quick dinner, we headed back to the hostel to get ready for a compulsory night out. We went to the club that was attached to the hostel where we were staying, called ‘the Scary Canary’, and thanks to Dean and his connections we got free entry and drinks!! The DJs were also better than I expected so we had a real good boogie.
I endured a tough morning on my final day, as you can imagine, but all was not lost. Once I had some paracetamol and some food down me I was ready for the day. The sun was beaming on Sydney, a big contrast to that I had previously experienced. I had made a note of a bar I saw on Instagram a few weeks back, called Hacienda, and made it a priority to go there. So we made one last trip into the city for a couple of drinks. It was the most beautiful bar I have ever been to, and it overlooked the Sydney Harbour, but, inevitably, the cocktails were extortionate!
Then I said my goodbyes before making my way to the airport. It was such an amazing weekend! Thank you Sydney!
I hope you all enjoyed reading. Until next time!!
